Our speaker in March was Kathleen Gabriel who gave us an excellent
presentation about the Collier Hardware business and the historic
building in downtown Chico.
Collier Hardware is not only a downtown hardware store, it is a piece
of Chico history. The store has been a part of Chico life since 1935.
The building itself was built in 1871 and before renovation, was in a
style similar to that of Old Sacramento. This particular building has a
similar layout to a historic building in Cuba. The style closely resembles
the early architecture of California, with origins in Andalusia, Spain.
It was at one time the location of a Masonic Lodge.
