SIR Bidwell Branch 110 Hiking
Hike in the North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve, April 23, 2025.
The April hike will be in the North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve. We'll meet at
8:30am at the Park and Ride lot closest to Highway 99.
From there we will carpool to the Reservre near Oroville.
We'll hike a mile or so out-and-back to the nearest waterfall and admire the wild
flowers.
Wear Layers, hat, walking or hiking shoes or boots.
There should be portable toilets at the parking area - they've been there in previous
years.
Take water which is essential, a snack if desired. Suggest taking sunscreen and lip balm.
We'll go out to lunch after the hike for those who are interested.
Include in your pack emergency contact information and medical insurance information.
We will be walking over uneven terrain and probably encounter muddy ground. We may
negotiate steep sections of trail as well as rocky terrain. There are numerous trip
hazards. Part of the trail is a cross-country trail that is not well defined.
Suggest obtaining a Lands Pass or bringing your hunting or fishing license.
Do you really really need a Lands Pass? Your call. Fish and Wildlife expects you to
have one.

Upper Bidwell Park Hike Tuesday October 8, 2024

While we are past the hot temperatures of summer, fall so far has proved
to be a warm weather proposition. The hike was in Upper Bidwell Park & the hikers
headed out on the Middle Trail then dropping down to the Yahi Trail at Bear
Hole for the hike back. They saw some of the area burned by the Park Fire
but along the Yahi Trail there was plenty of shade near the creek and it
was a pleasant outing. They went by the area where the Park Fire started
and stopped and thought about the acres and structures burned and also the
remarkable fact that no one died fighting or fleeing the Park Fire. They
completed their circular route at Horseshoe and headed for home.

As you can see the hikers enjoyed views of Chico Creek Canyon and all were tempted to jump into the creek as it got pretty warm by the time they headed back from Bear hole to Horseshoe Lake. It was a great time on the trail.

Dan Beebe / Bidwell Canyon Hike

The low lake levels have exposed the old Oro Quincy Highway that ran through the Bidwell Bar to Berry Creek.
